The installation «plantasylum» was formed as a result of studying texts of canadian sociologist Erving Goffman (1922-1982). He established the term of the «total institution» to describe places in society that seem to allow no personal freedom to the subject and are organized around the idea of extensive control of the individual. In his various texts, like «Asylums» (1961), he analyses the possibilities of autonomy of the individual in the total institution, causing debates about how to abolish them and initiating social change.
Die Installation «Plantasylum» entstand als Ergebnis des Studiums von Texten des kanadischen Soziologen Erving Goffman (1922-1982). Er begründete den Begriff der «Totalen Institution», um Orte in der Gesellschaft zu beschreiben, die dem Subjekt scheinbar keine persönliche Freiheit ermöglichen und um die Idee einer umfassenden Kontrolle des Individuums herum organisiert sind. In seinen verschiedenen Texten, wie «Asyle» (1972), analysiert er die Möglichkeiten der Autonomie des Individuums in der totalen Institution, verursachte so Debatten, wie sie sich abschaffen ließen und initiierte soziale Veränderungen.
